Nollywood’s maiden submission for best international feature Oscar consideration, the movie “Lionheart,” has been shockingly disqualified by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for having too much of her dialogue in English.
“Lionheart,” in which Nnaji also stars, has its conversation partially in the Igbo language of Nigeria. But the language used for conversation is predominantly English, which violates an Academy rule that entries in the category must have “a predominantly non-English dialogue track.”
Genevieve, while reacting to the disqualification, took to twitter to share ;
I am the director of Lionheart. This movie represents the way we speak as Nigerians. This includes English which acts as a bridge between the 500+ languages spoken in our country; thereby making us #OneNigeria.
