Many residents were forced to remain indoors throughout the day on Saturday, January, 11 in Dutse, capital of Jigawa state as a result of extremely cold weather.
A taxi driver, Malam Yunusa, said that he could not get passengers and has been trying to do so for hours but he is unable to get any due to the cold weather, saying that on a normal day his car usually got filled within 30 minutes.
Hauwa Abdullahi, a resident of Dutse said the weather kept her kids away from school as they could not cope.
According to a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent who went around the capital, most of the places were deserted due to the weather.
The same correspondent also observed that Hakimi street, which is always busy, was totally abandoned as only few people were seen at tea vendors’ joints.
Another place that was also observed was the famous Sani Abacha way as vehicles on the road had to turn on their headlights to get good visibility.
